In the early 1900s, Solomon Boscov, fleeing near-certain death as a Jewish draftee from the Russian Pale, escaped the tsar's army hidden in a hay cart and journeyed to America. There, as a rural pedlar and then owner of a general store, he became beloved for his kindness, generosity and devotion to community—all of which led to the remarkable success of his business, Boscov’s. Those qualities lived on in his children, including his eldest, Joseph, who, with the support of his wife Shirley, founded his own successful fiber-optics company, Berk-Tec. The fruits of their labors fund this foundation; through its mission we hope to carry on their legacy of caring for the greater good.
As new generations of our family emerge, we build upon what was created, saved and given. We find ways to support the good work of the world and carry on traditions of generosity and foresight.
